Purpose of the Job

To ensure outstanding customer service across the organisation by delivering, and supporting colleagues to deliver, expert HR advice and guidance in a timely and effective manner, whilst maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and integrity. You will be constantly striving to improve the efficiency and professionalism of working practices to meet the company’s objective of “clarity and consistency” and working “smarter not harder” to facilitate an increase in customer base whilst maintaining and improving customer service.

Main Responsibilities/Duties of the Job

Company Responsibilities

  1. Manage and support a portfolio of schools on all aspects of HR management.
  2. Coach and mentor junior team members to support their development.
  3. Respond to a wide range of customer enquiries relating to HR issues in a professional manner, via telephone, e-mail or other correspondence.
  4. Ensure that customers receive timely, accurate and valuable advice.
  5. Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and leaders.
  6. Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership to drive the delivery of the business’ HR plans.
  7. Support with building strong talent pipelines and managing recruitment up to c-suite level.
  8. Offer accurate interpretation, advice, application and representation to customers on employment legislation, best practice and policies and procedures in relation to and in the context of customers’ policies and procedures on a range of HR matters. This includes complex casework on recruitment and selection, remuneration, terms and conditions of service, disciplinary and capability (performance and health) cases, grievance, redundancy and whole school restructures, academy conversions and TUPE etc., liaising with senior colleagues where appropriate.
  9. Visit schools and customers to provide support and advice on HR concerns to allow them to drive their business forward.
  10. Attend and advise at formal hearings/appeals, and advise at union consultation meetings.

  2. Contribute to the sharing of good practice and knowledge amongst colleagues, as required.
  3. Keep up-to-date with current legislation, policies and procedures and other industry guidance.
  4. Monitor available data, including work tray dashboard, casework spreadsheet (ensuring accurate at all times) and customer feedback; proactively addressing any customer service concerns, escalating to an HR Manager where appropriate.
  5. Ensure outstanding customer service in all areas of HR and Payroll.
  6. Promote EPM Ltd whenever possible, seeing opportunities for new business.
  7. Proactively seek new and innovative ways to work smarter, not harder, ensuring clarity and consistency across the organisation.
EssentialDesirable
Five 9 - 5 GCSEs including Maths and English, or equivalentEducated to degree level or equivalent
Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development - Level 3Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development - Level 5
Current membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and DevelopmentPrevious experience of managing human resources in the Education Sector
Full driving licence and own transportUnderstanding of terms and conditions of employment within schools and academies
Minimum of 18 months experience in an advisory position within a HR environment, which will include advice and support for managers, training, responsibility for issues such as the appointment and dismissal of staff, grievance, disciplinary procedures, absence management, redundancy, etc.
Understanding of Education Legislation
Experience of attending hearings up to and including dismissal to advise managers and/or present the caseHigh level of numeracy skills and ability to deal accurately with manual calculations of a complex nature
Competency in interpreting and providing advice on employment legislation and conditions of service to ensure compliance and best practiceCompetency in formulating and implementing policy and initiatives
Competency in establishing good working relationships with a range of customers e.g. headteachers, governors, and senior managers, or similarExperience of providing creative solutions to complex employment issues within the constraints of regulation and policy
Ability to quickly gain credibility with customersExperience of working with HR/Payroll databases and management information systems
Confident in negotiating with trade union representatives
Competency in working within the constraints of predefined employment policies and procedures
