Data Engineer

We are recruiting a Data Engineer to provide a high-quality integrated service to the education sector. You will be responsible for creating and building data pipelines to pull together information from different source systems; integrating, consolidating and cleansing data; and structuring it for use by internal and external clients in the form of reports or data extractions.

Base: EPM Offices, Huntingdon

Salary: £40,000 – £46,000

Purpose of the Job

Responsible for creating and building data pipelines to pull together information from different source systems; integrating, consolidating and cleansing data; and structuring it for use by internal and external clients in the form of reports or data extractions. Work alongside an experienced Business Analyst in an agile environment, with the aim to improve efficiency within the business and help coordinate technical projects relating to all aspects of the company’s ICT requirements.

Main Responsibilities/Duties of the Job

Data Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and maintain data management systems, making sure they meet business requirements and user needs.
  • Maintaining, improving and manipulating the data by consolidating, cleansing and structuring for optimum use.
  • Identifying, building and using the appropriate ETL tools (including SSIS/SSRS) and APIs/interfaces for creating and managing data integration jobs, providing users with simplified access to prepared datasets and reports.
  • Deliver services that are automated, reliable and secure.
  • Lead on innovating the creation and development of our data platforms, advanced analytics and general data processing.
  • Continuously monitor and test the system to ensure optimised performance.
  • Maintaining data integrity, quality and security in line with agreed policies, through standardisation, documentation and quality monitoring.
  • In conjunction with the Business Analyst, identify, design and implement internal process improvements; automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build reports, data sets and analytical tools that fully utilise data to provide actionable insights for both internal and external clients.
  • Work with key stakeholders (e.g. EPM’s Directors, Assistant Directors, and IT team) on data-related technical and/or performance issues and data infrastructure needs.

Internal Team Responsibilities (under the direction of the Director)

  • Support IT team colleagues with general IT tasks/helping users.
  • Support EPM colleagues with data-related queries/requests from clients.
  • Work with the Group’s data and IT teams on Group-wide initiatives and projects

Other Responsibilities

  • Seek to encourage outstanding customer service in all areas of EPM.
  • Promote EPM Ltd and the Citation Group whenever possible, seeing opportunities to introduce new business to other areas of EPM, as well as cross-sell opportunities to other companies within the Group.
  • Proactively seek new and innovative ways to work smarter not harder and to meet the company’s objectives of clarity and consistency.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the Director.

Person Specification

Qualifications
EssentialDesirable
Minimum of a 2:1 degree in Computer Science, or a related degreeSQL certification (e.g. databases, servers, reporting – MCSA, MCSE)
Current Data Management certifications
EssentialDesirable
Minimum of 5 years’ working experience within ITMS Dynamics NAV 2009 to 2016 knowledge/experience
Highly proficient in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and above, as well as SSIS, SSRS and SSAS
Some knowledge of data mining/advanced analyticsSome knowledge of predictive modelling, machine learning
Excellent report writing and data analysis skills
Experience within an agile methodology/ framework
Integration skills (API using technologies such as Jitterbit or ESB/Message Queries)
Knowledge of Windows Networking Structure, Windows Server Architecture, all Microsoft packages, including Advanced Excel and Power BI
Knowledge of other tools, including Tableau and Sharepoint
Skilled communicator; verbally and in writing
Excellent at building strong working relationships with a range of people (e.g. ability to quickly gain credibility with clients)
Intellectually curious, with a need to know how things work and how to make them better…..
